We have selected the Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless to be the recipient for RSVP Tulsa’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Day of Service project.  RSVP Tulsa will be collecting donations of new household items – including kitchen towels, potholders, drinkware, dishes, cleaning products, bath towels, twin sheet sets & blankets – for the Day Center’s “House Warming Project.”   The Day Center annually distributes boxes filled with the basic items needed to turn an empty apartment into a livable place for clients who are ready to take the next step from being homeless to becoming re-established in the community.

“Our volunteers understand all too well about life transitions,” said Tonnie Dosser, RSVP Tulsa Executive Director. We felt this was the perfect project to remember Dr. King’s legacy while helping fellow Tulsans get a fresh start in their lives again.  MLK Day of Service also shines a spotlight on how volunteer service can be a powerful force to bridge economic and social divides.”

Volunteers and interested friends can drop off donations from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, through January 15th.  RSVP volunteers will also organize and pack the household items into special boxes for delivery to the Tulsa Day Center on Dr. Martin Luther King Day (January 20, 2014).
