Food Bank is hosting thePanera Hunger Run 2008” on Sat, June 7, at Mohawk Park. If you would like to help get this new event off the ground, you are needed from 6–11am to help at registration, water stops, or handing out awards. PLEASE Call Kate at 585-2800 at the Food Bank.

(May 13)  Broken Arrow area residents who enjoy telling people where to go, spend some time each week at St Francis Urgent Care, 3000 S Elm. You will be the Information person at the front door directing patients and their families in the building.

Weekly/Regular Commitment
(May 13)  Get to know some new friends who would love to see a smiling face! Broken Arrow Senior Center at 1800 S Main has a nutrition program that delivers meals from this site to homebound seniors. If you live in B.A., please consider assisting this program by volunteering to deliver meals. You may assist one day per week or more and they do pay $15 to their drivers each day they deliver meals. They also need volunteers to help pack the food or serve it at the BA Seniors Nutrition site. 

(May 13)  Bingo Callers wanted at Cancer Treatment Center of America at Hwy 169 and 81st. There are usually from 12 to 20 people in the dining room playing Bingo. They have the shift open on Wed or Fri evenings from 6:45–8:30pm. Help the patients and their families have fun for a couple of hours to take their mind off their treatment.

(May 13)  Green thumbs are needed at The Center at 8th & Utica. If you are a semi expert in horticulture, then please consider sharing your knowledge of plants and related topics in a relaxed, friendly lab setting. They would love to offer this class any M-W-or F between
3-4pm. Volunteers may use the fitness center which is a wonderful benefit.

(May 13)  Circle Cinema is a historic movie theatre that originated in Tulsa in 1928. They help create community consciousness through film! If you would like to be a Theatre Assistant for special showings, call today. You will take tickets, greet patrons, hand out materials, etc. as needed, so schedule varies. Location is 12 S. Lewis.

(May 13)  Circle Cinema Foundation office is seeking an office volunteer to come in a 2 or 3 hours a week, preferably on the same day each week, to help with general office duties such as organizing, preparing small mailings, filing, maybe answering the phone, etc. The office location is 8 S Lewis. Free soft drinks and popcorn available to volunteers.

Weekly Commitment
(May 13)  The Family Safety Center is seeking volunteers to assist in reception and advocacy ½ day a week Mon-Fri. Training and support are provided. If you’re interested in family safety issues, your time will make a real difference here. Centrally located at 3010 S Harvard.

(May 13)  Grace Hospice has volunteer openings in Sapulpa, Sand Springs, Owasso, B.A., Coweta or Claremore. You could volunteer to visit a patient or teach a craft project or help a caregiver with simple yard-work or errands. Patient visitation requires training that is provided.

(May 13)  For those who may have grandchildren far away, then come out to Oklahoma Life Skills-Special Kids, and rock precious babies or read to toddlers. Location is 4921 S Yorktown. They have morning and afternoon schedules available.

(May 13)  Do you love The Philbrook Museum of Art and would you like to spend a few hours a week helping to keep them organized? The Curatorial Department would love to have assistance in their friendly, interesting area to organize and label files. You will work with the Assistant Registrar most of the time. This position requires a background check.

(May 13)  If you like digging in the dirt, consider this flexible Gardening Opportunity at RSVP! The flower beds in front of our building need light maintenance every other week or so. We would love for you to spend some volunteer time helping us keep them beautiful and weed free!  Call or email Gary Ann

(Apr 8)  Resonance of Tulsa is a support agency for women and sponsors a summer day camp for girls, “You Grow Girl!” This summer from Mon, June 23, to Thurs June 26, RSVP crochet volunteers are wanted for one hour a day to teach the girls to crochet. We’ll also take this opportunity to give the girls safety whistles and talk with them about dating safety.

Computer Teacher to teach Intro to Computers – July 2008 only, Tue & Thur, 1–3pm, at Rudisell Library, 1520 N Hartford. Classes will be held in their Computer Lab and the 6-8th grade students will be eager to learn computers!

(Apr 21)  Impact the safety of Tulsa’s residents. The Crime Commission needs you to present the Alert Neighbors program to local neighborhoods. This is a very flexible opportunity so you may set your own schedule. All materials and training provided for you to present to groups of citizens in neighborhoods.

(Apr 21)  Animal Aid Thrift Store is a wonderland of neat things, so you can explore while you assist customers! And you help animals by serving in this store. Volunteers are needed anytime Sat between 9am and 3pm. Come out and serve and help Animal Aid save man’s best friend! 3307 E. 15th, east of Harvard on 15th St.

(Apr 28)  Smiling, friendly faces are what the doctored orders for the gift shop at Bailey Medical Center in Owasso. If you could serve 10am to 2pm any weekday, you are needed immediately. Or if you prefer desk service, check out the Front Info Desk or the Surgery Desk. A great place to volunteer is waiting for you!

(Apr 28)  Bixby Community Outreach Center helps residents who need temporary assistance with food or clothing or utilities. They have volunteer openings in the following areas: reception desk, interviewer, or special event volunteer. If you would like to visit or know more about this agency, email Gary Ann.

(Apr 21)  Tulsa County Family Safety Court Watch  Since 1999  Court Watch volunteers serve as extra eyes and ears for the judicial system and law enforcement and the Tulsa County community. Volunteers observe cases being heard in the courts relating to family safety and then provide feedback to participants and the community about the process. The program objective is safety for victims and their children, accountability for abusers, and increased public safety for all. Court Watch volunteers also perform case research, data entry, and case tracking duties, some of which can be done as virtual volunteers from home. A flexible volunteer schedule is offered along with learning and training, mentor and staff support, and monthly coffee meetings for review and camaraderie. Courthouse parking is paid.

(Apr 21)  Habitat for Humanity volunteer openings from helping in the office to working, to being a cashier in the RESTORE, to serving at a construction site. Orientation required and is only 1 hour.

(Apr 15)  Do you like working around beautiful plants in a greenhouse, selling to the public? Volunteer your time and plant expertise at A New Leaf. Volunteer Mon morning or afternoon or Tue–Sat mornings. Location is 2306 S First Pl, B.A.. All training provided.

JAZZ up your weekends!
(Apr 15)  The Red River Jazz Café is now heard twice each weekend. If you miss the Sat noon show, you can catch it on Sun morning at eleven. Both are heard each weekend on AM-1570 KZLI Tulsa. We are still playing the greatest small combo jazz from the 1940s to the 1960s and beyond. Playing jazz artists like Art Tatum, Dave Brubeck, Oscar Peterson, Peggy Lee, Julie London, Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Astrud Gilberto, Billy Taylor Trio, Nat Cole and his trio, and many, many more jazz artists. Plus we still have friendly and polite conversation to make your weekend fun and entertaining. Join us next weekend and many weekends to come.

(Apr 21)  Junior Achievement of Eastern Oklahoma has curriculum kits from this year that need to be updated. This means old materials will be removed to create new kits. If you could help with this a couple of hours or so every two weeks, they would love to have your help! If you want to work around lunch time, they will buy your lunch! Location is 3947 S 103 E Ave (41st & Hwy 169).

(Apr 21)  Martin East Library at 26th & Garnett would love any volunteers that like to shelve books, or would like checking in items from other locations, any weekday 9-11am. Training provided. Or, if you would like to monitor the computer lab, M-F, 3-5pm. You do not need to know computers to monitor, just help keep the room quiet and orderly.

(Apr 15)  Rocking babies and reading to toddlers can be fun! If you have grandchildren who live far away, here is a way to volunteer and spend quality time with infants and toddlers who love attention. Special Kids (Oklahoma Life Skills) would love the help of patient loving volunteers on Mon between 9am–4pm, Tue mornings, or any weekday from 2–4pm. Location is 4921 S Yorktown, Ste 103.

(Apr 28)  St. Francis Hospital-South is a terrific hospital setting that is getting busier everyday. If you would like to help direct people from the Info Desk or from the Emergency Room Desk, then sign up today. You will receive training and orientation.

(Apr 28)  Owasso residents consider volunteer service at the St. John’s Medical Center Gift Shop or hand out smiles and information at the Guest Services Desk. You can be the friendly face that family members need to see while visiting the hospital.
