"The best part of being an RSVP Grandfriend for me is when I am doing group time and I finish reading a book or telling a story and one of the children will say “read another one. And of course – the hugs!”

- Susan Lewis, RSVP Grandfriend

RSVP Grandfriend volunteers 55 plus regularly visit early childhood classrooms one a month, once a week or more for 2-3 hours each morning.  RSVP Grandfriend volunteers assist teachers with their classroom activities or share from their own interests with a classroom of children, a small group or one on one.  Reading stories, playing music or creating beautiful works of art are some of the RSVP Grandfriends’ favorite activities.

The RSVP Grandfriends volunteer program is a partnership between RSVP and Community Action Project providing intergenerational opportunities for children to grow and learn.  Classrooms are located throughout the Greater Tulsa area for children birth through five years of age.  These early childhood programs hope to foster the healthy social and emotional development of every child beginning in the earliest months and years of a child’s life.

Grandfriend volunteers must have a background check, current TB test and attend a brief orientation before classroom assignment.  Quarterly meetings are scheduled throughout the school year to provide an opportunity to share with other Grandfriends and receive ongoing training.
